The 1-Center and 1-Highway Problem
نویسندگان
چکیده
We study a variation of the 1-center problem in which, in addition to a single supply facility, 8 we are allowed to locate a highway. This highway increases the transportation speed between any demand 9 point and the facility. We show that we can find the optimal location of both the facility and the highway 10 in O(n) or O(n log n) time, depending on whether or not the highway’s length is fixed. 11

The Parameterized Hardness of the k-Center Problem in Transportation Networks
In this paper we study the hardness of the k-Center problem on inputs that model transportation networks. For the problem, an edge-weighted graph G = (V,E) and an integer k are given and a center set C ⊆ V needs to be chosen such that |C| ≤ k. The aim is to minimize the maximum distance of any vertex in the graph to the closest center. This problem arises in many applications of logistics, and ...
متن کاملThe resource-constraint project scheduling problem of the project subcontractors in a cooperative environment: Highway construction case study
Large-scale projects often have several activities which are performed by subcontractors with limited multi-resources. Project scheduling with limited resources is one of the most famous problems in the research operations and optimization cases. The resource-constraint project scheduling problem (RCPSP) is a NP-hard problem in which the activities of a project must be scheduled to reduce the p...
متن کاملFixed Parameter Approximations for k-Center Problems in Low Highway Dimension Graphs
We consider the k-Center problem and some generalizations. For k-Center a set of k center vertices needs to be found in a graph G with edge lengths, such that the distance from any vertex of G to its nearest center is minimized. This problem naturally occurs in transportation networks, and therefore we model the inputs as graphs with bounded highway dimension, as proposed by Abraham et al. [SOD...
متن کاملBenchmark Structural Control Problem for a Seismically Excited Highway Bridge, Part I: Problem Definition
This paper presents the problem definition of the benchmark structural control problem for the seismically excited highway bridge. The benchmark problem is based on the newly constructed 91/5 highway over-crossing in Southern California. The goal of this effort is to develop a standardized model of a highway bridge using which competing control strategies, including devices, algorithms and sens...
متن کاملElevated Highways in Residential Layouts: The Imposed Negative Impacts (Case Study: Sadr Elevated Highway)
Fast growing population, excessive expansion of cities, and dominance of automobile in urban life have troubled cities with complicated traffic problems. In many parts of the world, transport network development has always been considered as a solution for this problem. Apparently, one-dimensional ‘traffic solutions’ would never thoroughly bring best results as the city and its problems are com...
